Monitoring mobile device context
First Claim
1. A power-efficient method of assessing a context of a mobile device, the method comprising:
- maintaining state data indicative of a current context of a mobile device, wherein the state data defines whether the mobile device is available to establish communication with a third party device;
determining, at the mobile device, a transition of the mobile device from the current context to an updated context, wherein the determination is based at least in part on information obtained by the mobile device during each interval of a set of intervals, wherein the obtained information is not transmitted from the mobile device, and wherein the set of intervals is based at least in part on an anticipated variance of the obtained information;
responsive to a determination of a transition;
modifying the state data based at least in part on the determined transition, wherein the state data is indicative of the updated context, and wherein modification of the state data occurs only in response to a determination of a transition, andmodifying, without interaction with an external device, the set of intervals based at least in part on the updated context, wherein the modified set of intervals are defined by the updated context and correspond to an anticipated variance in information obtained during the updated context;
receiving a request to establish communication between the mobile device and the third party device, andmanaging the request to establish communication based at least in part on the state data.

Abstract
Systems, methods and interfaces are disclosed for managing communications associated with a mobile communication device. Mobile communication devices process environmental inputs and transmit mobile communication device context information to a communication management system. The context information may, for example, reflect the motion and/or geographic location of the mobile device, and may reflect the risk associated with using the device to handle a call or other communications session. The communication management system uses the context information, optionally in combination with communication device profiles, to determine how to manage incoming and/or ongoing calls or other communication sessions. Mobile device users may also be inhibited from initiating communication sessions.
