Abstract

An upright surface treating appliance includes a main body, a surface treating head connected to a yoke, and a stand. To provide a compact appliance the yoke and the stand are pivotable independently relative to the main body about a common pivot axis. This can also enable the yoke and the stand to be rotatably connected to the main body using one or more common connectors or bearings.

Claims

1. An upright surface treating appliance comprising a main body, a surface treating head connected to a yoke and a pair of wheels each rotatably connected to a respective arm of the yoke, the appliance further comprising a stand which extends rearwardly of the pair of wheels, wherein the yoke and the stand are independently pivotable relative to the main body about a common pivot axis.

2. The appliance of claim 1, wherein each wheel is rotatable about a respective rotational axis, each rotational axis being inclined relative to the pivot axis.

3. The appliance of claim 2, wherein the rotational axes intersect the pivot axis.

4. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the wheels are dome-shaped.

5. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the wheels at least partially delimit a substantially spherical volume.

6. The appliance of claim 5, wherein the pivot axis passes through the center of the spherical volume.

7. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the stand comprises a pair of supporting legs connected to a body which extends between rims of the wheels.

8. The appliance of claim 1, wherein the stand is pivotably mounted on a motor casing of the main body.

9. The appliance of claim 8, wherein the stand comprises a first supporting arm and a second supporting arm.

10. The appliance of claim 9, wherein the yoke comprises a first yoke arm and a second yoke arm each pivotably connected to the main body, the supporting arms of the stand being located between the yoke arms.

11. The appliance of claim 10, wherein the first supporting arm of the stand is located about an air inlet of the motor casing.

12. The appliance of claim 11, which the body comprises a motor inlet duct for conveying an air flow to the air inlet of the motor casing, and which is located between the first supporting arm and the first yoke arm.

13. The appliance of claim 12, wherein the first yoke arm is pivotably connected to the motor inlet duct.

14. The appliance of claim 10, wherein the second supporting arm of the stand and the second yoke arm are rotatably supported by a common annular bearing connected to the motor casing.

15. The appliance of claim 8, wherein the stand is pivotable relative to the motor casing between a supporting position and a retracted position, and wherein the motor casing carries a system for releasably retaining the stand in its supporting position.
