Abstract

An image to be shared with other users based on input from a first user is received. A second user is identified from a tag of the image, and information is provided, based at least in part on the tag, to one or both of the first user and the second user. Additionally, after editing of an image a determination can be made as to whether a region of the image having an associated tag has been affected by the editing. The tag associated with the region is altered if the region has been affected by the editing, otherwise the tag associated with the region is left unaltered. Furthermore, the tag can include a first portion storing data identifying a region of the image to which the tag corresponds, and a second portion storing data identifying a person shown in the region.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a memory comprising instructions stored thereon that, responsive to execution by the processor, perform operations comprising;

receiving an image to be shared with other users based on input from a first user;

identifying a second user from a tag of the image, the tag of the image comprising a name of the second user that is associated with a region of the image;

providing information, based at least in part on the tag, to one or both of the first user and the second user, the provided information including a notification to the first user of one or more additional images that have been shared by the second user.

2. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the providing information comprises sending an additional notification to the second user that the first user has published the image.

3. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the tag further includes a hash of an email address of the second user.

4. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the identifying further comprises:

comparing a hash value of an email address in the tag to hash values of one or more email addresses in an email address record of the first user;

identifying an additional email address in the email address record that is the same as the hash value of the email address in the tag; and

using the identified email address to provide the information to the second user.

5. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the identifying further comprises accessing an ID of the second user included in the tag.

6. The system as recited in claim 1, wherein the tag further includes:

a first portion storing data identifying the region of the image to which the tag corresponds; and

a second portion storing data identifying the second user.

7. A computing device comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more computer storage media having stored thereon multiple instructions that, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to;

receive an image to be shared with other users based on input from a first user;

identify a second user from a tag of the image, the tag of the image associated with the second user and a region of the image; and

provide information, based at least in part on the tag, to one or both of the first user and the second user by notifying the first user of one or more additional images including the second user that have been shared by the second user.

8. The computing device as recited in claim 7, wherein the multiple instructions, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to provide the information by sending a notification to the second user that the first user has published the image.

9. The computing device as recited in claim 7, wherein the tag further includes a hash of an email address of the second user.

10. The computing device as recited in claim 7, wherein the multiple instructions, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to identify the second user by:

comparing a hash value of an email address in the tag to hash values of one or more email addresses in an email address record of the first user;

identifying an additional email address in the email address record that is the same as the hash value of the email address in the tag; and

using the identified email address to provide the information to the second user.

11. The computing device as recited in claim 7, wherein the multiple instructions, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to identify the second user by accessing an ID of the second user included in the tag.

12. The computing device as recited in claim 7, wherein the tag further includes:

a first portion storing data identifying the region of the image to which the tag corresponds; and

a second portion storing data identifying the second user.

13. The computing device as recited in claim 7, wherein the multiple instructions, responsive to execution by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

determine, after editing of the image, whether the region of the image has been affected by the editing; and

delete the tag if a face of the second user in the region has been cropped out of the image by the editing.

14. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving an image to be shared with other users based on input from a first user;

identifying a second user from a tag of the image, the tag of the image associated with the second user and a region of the image; and

providing information, based at least in part on the tag, to one or both of the first user and the second user by notifying the first user of one or more additional images that have been shared by the second user.

15. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 14, wherein the providing the information further comprises sending a notification to the second user that the first user has published the image.

16. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 14, wherein the tag further includes a hash of an email address of the second user.

17. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 14, wherein the identifying the second user further comprises:

comparing a hash value of an email address in the tag to hash values of one or more email addresses in an email address record of the first user;

identifying an additional email address in the email address record that is the same as the hash value of the email address in the tag; and

using the identified email address to provide the information to the second user.

18. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 14, wherein the identifying the second user further comprises accessing an ID of the second user included in the tag.

19. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 14, wherein the tag further includes:

a first portion storing data identifying the region of the image to which the tag corresponds; and

a second portion storing data identifying the second user.

20. The computer-implemented method as recited in claim 14, further comprising:

determining, after editing of the image, whether the region of the image has been affected by the editing; and

deleting the tag if a face of the second user in the region has been cropped out of the image by the editing.
