1. A method for removing an implantable medical device from an implantation site, the method comprising:

  • releasably engaging the implantable medical device at an implantation site by inserting jaw members of a retrieval apparatus through an aperture in the implantable medical device such that the jaw members engage an inner surface of the aperture, wherein the jaw members extend distally from an elongate, tubular body of the retrieval apparatus;

    coupling the retrieval apparatus to the implantable medical device by advancing an actuating member through the body and positioning a distal end portion of the actuating member at a location proximate distal tip portions of the jaw members to prevent inward deflection of the jaw members; and

    retracting the body such that the retrieval apparatus and the engaged implantable medical device are removed from the implantation site.
