Abstract

Provided is a distributed system and method for enabling new and useful location dependent features and functionality to mobile data processing systems. Mobile data processing systems (MSs) interact with each other as peers in communications and interoperability. Data is shared between mobile data processing systems to carry out novel Location Based eXchanges (LBX) of data for new mobile applications. Information which is transmitted inbound to, transmitted outbound from, or is in process at, a mobile data processing system, is used to trigger processing of actions in accordance with user configured permissions, charters, and other configurations. In a preferred embodiment, a user configurable platform is provided for quickly building well behaving LBX applications at MSs and across a plurality of interoperating MSs.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, by a first mobile data processing system carried by a first mobile data processing system user, directly from a second mobile data processing system carried by a second mobile data processing system user, application data sent by wireless transmission of data directly between the second mobile data processing system and the first mobile data processing system, the application data;

for sharing application state information of a user application in use at the second mobile data processing system with the first mobile data processing system, and

used by the first mobile data processing system in the first mobile data processing system comparing to first search criteria specified at the first mobile data processing system through a user interface of the first mobile data processing system;

determining, by the first mobile data processing system, a whereabouts of the second mobile data processing system for the first mobile data processing system performing a search action using the whereabouts of the second mobile data processing system after the determining, by the first mobile data processing system, the whereabouts of the second mobile data processing system;

storing, by the first mobile data processing system, searchable data for the application data;

comparing, by the first mobile data processing system, the first search criteria specified at the first mobile data processing system through the user interface of the first mobile data processing system to the searchable data and matching the searchable data with the first search criteria;

initiating, by the first mobile data processing system, the search action based on;

the whereabouts of the second mobile data processing system, and

the matching the searchable data with the first search criteria specified at the first mobile data processing system through the user interface of the first mobile data processing system;

performing the search action for searching an information storage for an information search result using an information search criteria; and

presenting the information search result.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the information search criteria includes a wildcard specification for determining the information search result.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the information search criteria includes a particular data processing system to search.

4. The method of claim 1 including finding information at a remote data processing system in a vicinity of the first mobile data processing system.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the search action is privileged.

6. The method of claim 1 including initiating a search action based on a specified location.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the first search criteria includes one or more conditions including at least one of:

information for an email application,

18. The method of claim 1 including maintaining information associated with the search action to a history with date and time information.

The method of claim 1 wherein the first search criteria defines a specification for a moving region of vicinity around a moving physical location of the first mobile data processing system during movement of the first mobile data processing system, the specification stored local to the first mobile data processing system and used by the first mobile data processing system for distinguishing:

remote data processing systems within direct wireless communication range of the first mobile data processing system which are physically located within the moving region of vicinity around the moving physical location, from

remote data processing systems within direct wireless communication range of the first mobile data processing system which are not physically located within the moving region of vicinity around the moving physical location.

20. A first mobile data processing system, comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory coupled to the one or more processors, wherein the memory includes executable instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, results in the first mobile data processing system;

receiving, by the first mobile data processing system carried by a first mobile data processing system user, directly from a second mobile data processing system carried by a second mobile data processing system user, application data sent by wireless transmission of data directly between the second mobile data processing system and the first mobile data processing system, the application data;

for sharing application state information of a user application in use at the second mobile data processing system with the first mobile data processing system, and

used by the first mobile data processing system in the first mobile data processing system comparing to first search criteria specified at the first mobile data processing system through a user interface of the first mobile data processing system;
