1. A system, comprising:
- a processor; and
a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising;
interfacing to sensor devices of a sensor network comprising a control plane that transports control messages for the sensor devices and a data plane that transports data messages for the sensor devices, wherein the sensor devices are on the data plane;
receiving, via the data plane, a data message associated with the sensor devices that measure a physical attribute, wherein the data message comprises measurement data associated with the physical attribute and is transmitted by a first sensor device of the sensor devices; and
receiving, via the control plane, a control message associated with the sensor devices in accordance with a first network protocol that differs from a second network protocol associated with the data message, wherein the control message comprises instruction data associated with the sensor devices and is transmitted by a second sensor device of the sensor devices.

Abstract
The disclosed subject matter relates to an architecture that can employ a control plane for managing communications with respect to a set of sensors. By utilizing a control plane, a distinction between control messages and data messages can be provided in a standardized way and the set of sensors can benefit from additional functionality and configurability. For example, the control plane can be employed to modify parameters associated with the set of sensors, which can be effectuated in real time and in situ as opposed to at the time of fabrication or deployment. Moreover, such modifications can relate to both the sensing portions of a particular sensor as well as the communication portions of a particular sensor.

communicating, by a system comprising a processor, sensor data associated with a physical quantity via a data plane of a communication network for sensors configured to measure the physical quantity, wherein the sensors comprise the data plane; communicating, by the system, instruction data representing a sensor command via a control plane of the communication network for the sensors; identifying, by the system, a control message comprising the sensor command and a data message comprising the sensor data; and communicating the control message by way of the control plane according to a first protocol that differs from a second protocol for communicating the data message, wherein the control message is communicated to a first sensor of the sensors and the data message is communicated from a second sensor of the sensors. - View Dependent Claims (18, 19, 20)
