1. A visor for a vehicle, said visor comprising:
- a pivot rod;
a floating carrier slidingly arranged over said pivot rod;
a first and second shell being engagable to form a visor body; and
said floating carrier being slidably retained between said first shell and said second shell, said floating carrier having a first surface and a first finger engaging said first shell, said floating carrier having a second surface and a second finger engaging said second shell, said floating carrier having a spring arranged within an orifice of an end of said floating carrier, said spring having a cylinder shape, said spring arranged between said inner surfaces of said first and second fingers and a body of said floating carrier, said spring having a male locking member extending from an end thereof.

Abstract
A sliding sun visor for use in a vehicle is disclosed. The sun visor includes a first and second visor body shell. At least one of the shells having a retaining channel for engaging and retaining a floating carrier on a visor pivot rod. It is also contemplated that the sun visor may have a snap in vanity system and rotating pin on a D-ring associated therewith. The visor body also may include a wire routing option to route a wire from the electrical system of a vehicle to a light bulb in a vanity.

a first shell having a channel; a second shell engagable with said first shell to form a visor body; a floating carrier arranged in said visor body and within said channel, said floating carrier having four riding surfaces, each of said riding surfaces having a generally forty five degree angle with respect to a center line of said floating carrier, said floating carrier having four fingers, each of said fingers having a generally forty five degree angle with respect to a centerline of said floating carrier; a pivot rod slidably engaging said floating carrier; a detent engaged with said pivot rod and arranged within said floating carrier; a D-ring secured to said visor body; and a vanity secured to said visor body. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20)

21. A method of manufacturing a sun visor comprising the steps of:

molding a first and second visor shell, each of said shells having a molded channel on an interior side thereof; aligning a floating carrier attached to a pivot rod with at least one of said shells having said channel, said floating carrier having four riding surfaces, each of said riding surfaces having a generally forty five degree angle with respect to a center line of said floating carrier, said floating carrier having four fingers, each of said fingers having a generally forty five degree angle with respect to a centerline of said floating carrier; attaching said shells wherein said floating carrier is secured to and contacts at least two surfaces of each visor shell in a single step assembly and is thereby slidably retained by said visor shells; and snapping a vanity assembly into one of said visor shells.
