1. A battery pack for powering a device, comprising:
- a rechargeable battery having a positive and a negative terminal;
a sensor for monitoring a parameter related to operation of the rechargeable battery;
a clock;
a memory for storing data related to operation of the rechargeable battery or data related to an operational parameter of a device being powered by the battery, the memory configured to store the data in one or more selected fields, at least one of which is a clock field in which is stored data provided by the clock indicative of when data related to the operation of the rechargeable battery or data related to the operational parameter of the device being powered by the battery is changed; and
a processor in electrical communication with the sensor and the memory, the processor configured to receive signals from the sensor and to store the data related to operation of the rechargeable battery extracted from the signals from the sensor in the memory, the processor also configured to retrieve the stored data from the memory and to communicate the stored data to a processor external to the battery pack, the processor also configured to retrieve the data from the clock field indicative of the last change of data related to operation of the rechargeable battery or data related to the operational parameter of the device being powered by the battery and to reset the clock using the retrieved data so that time stamps applied to data related to the operation of the rechargeable battery and data related to the operational parameter of the device being powered by the battery increase with time after the processor experiences a power loss.

a rechargeable battery having a positive and a negative terminal; a clock; a battery management system in electrical communication with the rechargeable battery, including a sensor for monitoring a performance parameter related to operation of the rechargeable battery, a memory for storing data related to operation of the rechargeable battery or data related to an operational parameter of a device being powered by the battery, the memory configured to store the data in one or more selected fields, at least one of which is a clock field in which is stored data provided by the clock indicative of when data related to the operation of the rechargeable battery or data related to the operational parameter of the device being powered by the battery is changed; and a processor in electrical communication with the sensor and the memory, the processor configured to receive signals from the sensor and to store the data related to operation of the rechargeable battery extracted from the signals from the sensor in the memory, the processor also configured to retrieve the stored data from the memory and to communicate the stored data to a processor external to the battery pack, the processor also configured to retrieve the data from the clock field indicative of the last change of data related to operation of the rechargeable battery or data related to the operational parameter of the device being powered by the battery and to reset the clock using the retrieved data so that time stamps applied to data related to the operation of the rechargeable battery and data related to the operational parameter of the device being powered by the battery increase with time after the processor experiences a power loss. - View Dependent Claims (23)
