1. An exhalation assembly adapted to be removably and directly attached to an exhalation valve module attached to a ventilation system, the exhalation assembly comprising:
- a filter module comprising a filter body containing filter media and having a filter inlet port and a filter outlet port and, wherein the filter module is adapted to be removably and directly connectable to the exhalation valve module, wherein the filter module, when attached to the exhalation valve module, filters all gas delivered to the exhalation valve module prior to the gas entering the filter inlet port; and
a condensate trap including a trap body attached to the filter body, the condensate trap receiving the gas delivered to the exhalation assembly via a trap inlet port extending through a side of the filter body and adapted to be connected to an expiratory limb prior to delivery of the gas to the filter body, wherein the condensate trap holds the gas received in a condensate chamber for a first residence time based on the condensate chamber'"'"'s volume and gas flow there through and collects moisture that condenses from the gas during the first residence time,wherein the filter module when attached to the condensate trap covers an opening of the trap body with the filter body to enclose the condensate trap and position the filter inlet port over a portion of the opening.

a filter module comprising a filter body containing a hollow cylindrical filter media and having a filter inlet port and a filter outlet port and, wherein the filter module is adapted to be removably and directly connectable to an exhalation valve module, wherein the filter module, when attached to the exhalation valve module, filters all gas delivered to the exhalation valve module prior to the gas entering the filter inlet port; and a condensate trap including a trap body attached to the filter body, the condensate trap receiving the gas delivered to the filter/trap module via a trap inlet port and adapted to be connected to an expiratory limb prior to delivery of the gas to the filter body, wherein the condensate trap holds the gas received in a condensate chamber for a first residence time based on the condensate chamber'"'"'s volume and gas flow there through and collects moisture that condenses from the gas during the first residence time, wherein the filter module when attached to the condensate trap positions the filter inlet port over an opening of the trap body, wherein the hollow cylindrical filter media has a sealed bottom creating an annulus within the hollow cylindrical filter media causing all of the gas to be filtered by passing through one or more sides of the filter media.
