1. A computing system comprising a computer processor, computer memory, and computer executable instruction that when executed by the processor perform a method for obtaining a size measurement of a person to be fitted for a garment, the method comprising:

  • providing a plurality of photographs captured from a camera of a portable electronic device, wherein each of the plurality of photographs includes photographic data of a particular body part of a user, the photographs being captured by moving the camera with respect to the particular body part such that each photograph includes an image of the particular body part from a different aspect;

    providing positional data from the portable electronic device, wherein the positional data includes the position or movement of the portable electronic device during the capture of each of the plurality of photographs;

    generating a 3-dimensional or contoured computer model of at least a portion of the particular body part by applying a feature extraction technique to the photographic data;

    determining the actual size of at least a portion of the particular body part in the computer model using the positional data; and

    using the determined actual size of the particular body part to generate a fitting measurement for a garment.
