1. A locating and map sharing system comprising:
- a first personal digital communicator, comprising;
a display;
a receiver for receiving GPS signals and other digital data;
a transceiver for transmitting digital data;
a modem coupled to the transceiver and to a digital processor;
the digital processor configured to determine the location of the personal digital communicator from received GPS signals;
a first operating system for operating the digital processor; and
an application module configured to convert a plurality of common data structures into a format readable by the first operating system, the application module configured to analyze digital data received from a second personal digital communicator that comprises a second operating system incompatible with the first operating system, the application module configured to analyze the digital data received from the second personal digital communicator to identify whether the digital data received from the second personal digital communicator comprises one or more of the plurality of common data structures and to convert identified common data structures within the digital data into the format readable by the first operating system;
the receiver configured to receive map data from a third party provider, the map data being configured in one of the plurality of common data structures, the application module being configured to convert the map data to the format readable by the first operating system;
the digital processor configured to send a signal to the display so that the display simultaneously shows the location of the personal digital communicator in view of the map data from the third party provider and a graphic representation of at least a portion of the digital data received from the second personal digital communicator.

Abstract
A location tagged data provision and display system. A personal communication device (PCD) with electromagnetic communication capability has a GPS receiver and a display. The 10 PCD requests maps and location tagged data from data providers and other for display on the PCD. The data providers respond to requests by using searching and sorting schemes to interrogate data bases and then automatically transmitting data responsive to the requests to the requesting PCD.

6. A method for sharing and displaying data, comprising:

a first portable communication device receiving GPS signals and determining its location based on the received GPS signals, the first portable communication device having a first operating system; the first portable communication device receiving location data from a second personal communication device, the second personal communication device having a second operating system that is incompatible with the first operating system; an application module of the first portable communication device analyzing the location data received from the second portable communication device to identify one or more standardized data structures; the application module converting standardized data structures identified in the location data received from the second portable communication device into a converted location data that is configured in a format readable by the first operating system; the first portable communication device determining the location of the second portable communication device by processing the converted location data; the first portable communication device receiving a map data from a data provider, the map data configured in one or more of the standardized data structures; the application module converting the standardized data structures of the map data into a converted map data that is configured in the format readable by the first operating system; and the first portable communication device simultaneously displaying a map based on the converted map data, a graphic representation of the location of the first portable communication device on the map, and a graphic representation of the location of the second portable communication device on the map. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8, 9, 10)
