1. A method comprising:
- a streaming server accessing digital data including advertising content and requested content in a storage medium, the streaming server generating a multimedia file with the advertising content and the requested content, the multimedia file comprising a video stream and an audio stream;
the streaming server transmitting a first portion of the advertising content to a computing device prior to transmitting the requested content;
wherein the advertising content and the requested content are delivered in data packets comprising a payload field, stream content, a timestamp field, and a sequence number; and
in response to a request to skip at least a second portion of the advertising content, the streaming server modifying the timestamp field of the second portion of the advertising content and the requested content relative to normal play time parameters of the multimedia file.
