Abstract

The disclosed embodiments include methods and systems for providing digital identification cards are disclosed. In one aspect, the disclosed embodiments may provide digital identification cards, such as proof of insurance cards, to mobile devices that are compliant with one or more standards set by identification-requiring organizations, such as a department of motor vehicles. Certain disclosed embodiments may update digital identification cards based on changes to user information or formatting information associated with one or more identification-requiring organizations.

Claims

1. A mobile device for providing a digital identification card compliant with one or more jurisdictional standards of an identification-requiring organization, comprising:

a memory storing software instructions; and

a processor configured to execute the software instructions to;

receive identification information associated with an accountholder from a digital identification server, wherein the identification information comprises an address of the accountholder,

determine an identification-requiring organization based on a jurisdiction associated with the address of the accountholder,

receive formatting information from the digital identification server, the formatting information reflecting a visual appearance of the digital identification card based on the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization, wherein the formatting information includes a field location for a text field of the digital identification card,

generate the digital identification card based on the identification information and the formatting information,

generate data that is used to display the digital identification card,

detect an update to the address information of the accountholder;

determine a new identification-requiring organization based on the updated address information, and

update the formatting information of the digital identification card to reflect one or more new jurisdictional standards of the new identification-requiring organization.

The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the formatting information associated with the identification-requiring organization further comprises one or more of a field size, field shape, type of font, font size, color of text, color of field, color of background, transparency of text, transparency of color, transparency of field, text to display, image information, and watermark information.

The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to execute the software instructions to update the digital identification card based on a change to the formatting information, wherein the change to the formatting information is based on a change to the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization.

4. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to execute the software instructions to:

store the digital identification card in the memory; and

generate data that is used to display the stored identification card in response to a request to display the digital identification card.

5. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to execute the software instructions to:

receive the updated address information as an input to the mobile device; and

transmit the updated address information to the digital identification server.

6. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to execute the software instructions to transfer the identification information to a device of the identification-requiring organization.

23. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to execute the software instructions to generate an updated digital identification card based on the updated address information and the updated formatting information.

7. A computer-implemented method for providing a digital identification card compliant with one or more jurisdictional standards of an identification-requiring organization, comprising:

receiving, by a mobile device, identification information associated with an accountholder from a digital identification server, wherein the identification information comprises an address of the accountholder;

determining, by the mobile device, an identification-requiring organization based on a jurisdiction associated with the address of the accountholder;

receiving, by the mobile device, formatting information from the digital identification server, the formatting information reflecting a visual appearance of the digital identification card based on the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization, wherein the formatting information includes a field location for a text field of the digital identification card;

generating, by the mobile device, the digital identification card based on the identification information and the formatting information;

displaying, by the mobile device, the digital identification card,

detecting an update to the address information of the accountholder;

determining a new identification-requiring organization based on the updated address information, and

updating, by the mobile device, the formatting information of the digital identification card to reflect one or more new jurisdictional standards of the new identification-requiring organization.

The computer-implemented method of claim 7, wherein the mobile device is configured to execute a digital identification mobile application and wherein generating the digital identification card includes generating, by the digital identification mobile application, the digital identification card based on the identification information and the formatting information.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 7, further comprising:

receiving, by the mobile device, new formatting information based on a change to the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization; and

updating, by the mobile device, the format of the digital identification card based on the new formatting information.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 7, further comprising:

receiving, by the mobile device, the updated address information as an input to the mobile device; and

updating, by the mobile device, the digital identification card based on the updated address information.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 8, further comprising:

receiving, by the digital identification mobile application, new formatting information based on a change to the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization; and

updating, by the digital identification mobile application, the format of the digital identification card based on the new formatting information.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 8, further comprising:

receiving, by the digital identification mobile application, the updated address information as an input to the mobile device; and

updating, by the digital identification mobile application, the digital identification card based on the updated address information.

13. A server for providing a digital identification card compliant with one or more jurisdictional standards of an identification-requiring organization, comprising:

a memory storing software instructions; and

one or more processors configured to execute the software instructions to;

receive identification information associated with an accountholder, wherein the identification information comprises an address of the accountholder,

determine an identification-requiring organization based on a jurisdiction associated with the address of the accountholder,

receive formatting information, the formatting information reflecting a visual appearance of the digital identification card based on the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization, wherein the formatting information includes a field location for a text field of the digital identification card,

generate the digital identification card according to the formatting information and identification information,

provide the digital identification card to a mobile device for display,

detect an update to the address information of the accountholder;

determine a new identification-requiring organization based on the updated address information, and

update the formatting information of the digital identification card to reflect one or more new jurisdictional standards of the new identification-requiring organization.

The digital identification server of claim 13, wherein the formatting information associated with an identification-requiring organization further comprises one or more of a field size, field shape, type of font, font size, color of text, color of field, color of background, transparency of text, transparency of color, transparency of field, text to display, image information, and watermark information.

The digital identification server of claim 13, wherein the one or more processors are further configured to execute the software instructions to update the digital identification card based on a change to the formatting information, wherein the change to the formatting information is based on a change to the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization.

16. The digital identification server of claim 15, wherein the one or more processors are further configured to execute the software instructions to provide the updated digital identification card to the mobile device such that the updated digital identification card is displayed by the mobile device in accordance with the changed one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization.

17. A computer-implemented method for providing digital identification cards relating to insurance policies, comprising:

receiving, by a digital identification server, a request from a mobile device associated with a policyholder of an insurance policy, the request including a request for policyholder insurance information and formatting information associated with an identification-requiring organization;

identifying, by the digital identification server, the requested policyholder insurance information, wherein the requested policyholder insurance information comprises an address of the policyholder;

identifying, by the digital identification server, the identification-requiring organization based on a jurisdiction associated with the address of the policyholder;

retrieving, by the digital identification server, the requested policyholder insurance information and the formatting information, the formatting information reflecting a visual appearance of a digital identification card based on one or more jurisdictional standards of the identified identification-requiring organization, wherein the formatting information includes a field location for a text field of the digital identification card;

providing, by the digital identification server, the retrieved policyholder insurance information and the formatting information to the mobile device, such that the mobile device executes a digital identification mobile application to generate a digital identification card based on the policyholder insurance information and the formatting information and display the generated digital identification card;

identifying, by the digital identification server, a new identification-requiring organization based on a detected update to the address of the policyholder; and

updating, by the digital identification server, the formatting information of the digital identification card to reflect one or more new jurisdictional standards of the new identification-requiring organization.

The computer-implemented method of claim 17, further comprising receiving, by the digital identification server, a change to the formatting information, wherein the change to the formatting information is based on a change to the one or more jurisdictional standards of the identification-requiring organization.

The computer implemented method of claim 18, further comprising providing the updated address information or the changed formatting information to the mobile device such that the digital identification mobile application generates an updated digital identification card based on the address information or the changed formatting information.

20. A server for providing digital identification cards relating to insurance policies, comprising:

a memory storing software instructions; and

one or more processors configured to execute the instructions to;

store insurance policyholder insurance information associated with a policyholder, the policyholder identification information comprising an address of the policyholder, and formatting information reflecting a visual appearance of a digital identification card based on one or more standards for identification cards relating to insurance policies, the identification-requiring organization selected based on a jurisdiction associated with the address of the policyholder, wherein the formatting information includes a field location for a text field of the digital identification card,

provide to a mobile device a digital identification mobile application configured to, when executed by a processor included in the mobile device, generate and display a digital proof of insurance identification card based on the policyholder insurance information and the formatting information such that the digital identification card is displayed by the mobile device,

select a new identification-requiring organization based on a detected update to the address of the policyholder, and

update the formatting information of the digital identification card to reflect one or more new jurisdictional standards of the new identification-requiring organization.

The server of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to execute the software instructions to provide the updated address information to the mobile device such that the digital identification mobile application updates the digital identification card according to the updated address information.

The server of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to execute the software instructions to provide the updated formatting information associated with the identification-requiring organization to the mobile device such that the digital identification mobile application updates the digital identification card according to the updated formatting information.
