1. A method of independently controlling a multi-zone electrochromic window comprising a first electrochromic zone and a second electrochromic zone, both on a single window pane, the method comprising:

  • (a) applying a first control voltage to the first electrochromic zone to thereby control the first electrochromic zone'"'"'s transmittance; and

    (b) independently of (a), applying a second control voltage to the second electrochromic zone to thereby control the second electrochromic zone'"'"'s transmittance,wherein the first and second electrochromic zones, disposed on a single window pane, are formed from a single electrochromic-based coating separated into the independently-controllable electrochromic zones by an electrically-isolating area.
