1. A method of establishing a wireless ad-hoc network connection between first and second nodes, the method comprising:

  • defining a beacon interval, the beacon interval having a plurality of subintervals, each subinterval corresponding to a position within said beacon interval;

    sending a network connection request from said first node during a predetermined one of said plurality of subintervals;

    detecting a network connection request from the second node during one of said plurality of subintervals,wherein said first node enters a sleep mode except when detecting or sending a network connection request,wherein said one of said plurality of subintervals for detecting said network connection request from said second node rotates within said plurality of subintervals in a round-robin fashion following each beacon interval, andwherein if the network connection request from said second node is detected;

    identifying an information element corresponding to said second node in said network connection request from said second node;

    adding said information element to network connection requests sent from said first node; and

    continuing to detect messages from said second node for a predetermined number of subintervals or until a network connection is established.
