1. A radio network node comprising one or more processors and memory, the memory containing instructions executable by the one or more processors, whereby the radio network node is operable to:

  • receive a page request from a core network node, the page request indicating to page a wireless communication device;

    determine a next occurrence of a monitoring window during which the wireless communication device monitors a paging channel associated with the radio network node;

    determine that an amount of time until the next occurrence of the monitoring window exceeds an amount of time that the radio network node can store the page request;

    discard the page request; and

    ,send a response to the core network node, the response indicating that the radio network node discarded the page request without sending the page request to the wireless communication device, the response including a paging timer value that indicates when the core network node is to repeat the page request;

    wherein;

    the monitoring window corresponds to an extended monitoring window, the extended monitoring window comprising a number X of early paging blocks before a nominal paging block associated with the wireless communication device; and

    ,the paging timer value causes the core network node to repeat the page request prior to the number X of early paging blocks preceding the next occurrence of the nominal paging block.
