Abstract

Methods and systems are described for determining a plurality of transmission levels for, e.g., a plurality of time-frequency channels and/or a plurality of tones. The transmission levels may be determined by a first node based on, for example, a received transmission from a second node. The first node may generate a signal, which may be based on, for example, an originator-based pseudorandom sequence, a recipient-based pseudorandom sequence, and/or a complex sinusoid. The first node may transmit the signal as an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a first node, a first transmission from a second node;

determining, based at least in part on the first transmission, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of time-frequency channels;

generating a signal that comprises an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence; and

transmitting the signal, via the plurality of time-frequency channels and using the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) second transmission via one or more antennas of a plurality of antennas of the first node.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the signal comprises the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence modified by an originating node index overlay and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to further comprise user data and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein a first portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a first portion of the signal modified by user data associated with the second node, and wherein a second portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a second portion of the signal that is not modified by the user data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to further comprise a complex sinusoid that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to comprise:

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex sinusoid that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the signal comprises a pilot signal.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmitting comprises transmitting the OFDM second transmission to multiple recipients using a multiple access scheme.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the OFDM second transmission comprises a time series of OFDM symbols, the method further comprising inserting the signal into a first plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols and user data into a second plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to further comprise a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to comprise:

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

12. A first node comprising:

a plurality of antennas; and

circuitry configured to;

receive a first transmission from a second node;

determine, based at least in part on the first transmission, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of tones;

generate a signal that comprises an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence modified by an originating node index overlay and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence; and

cause transmission of the signal, using the plurality of tones and the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) second transmission via one or more antennas of the plurality of antennas.

13. The first node of claim 12, wherein a first portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a first portion of the signal modified by user data associated with the second node, and wherein a second portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a second portion of the signal that is not modified by the user data.

14. The first node of claim 12, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node.

15. The first node of claim 12, wherein the signal comprises a pilot signal.

16. The first node of claim 12, wherein the circuitry is configured to cause the signal to be transmitted as at least part of the OFDM second transmission to multiple recipients using a multiple access scheme.

17. The first node of claim 12, wherein the OFDM second transmission comprises a time series of OFDM symbols, and wherein the circuitry is further configured to insert the signal into a first plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols and user data into a second plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols.

18. A method comprising:

receiving, by a first node, a first transmission from a second node;

determining, based at least in part on the first transmission, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of tones;

generating a signal that comprises an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence and that comprises a complex sinusoid that identifies an originator of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) second transmission; and

transmitting the signal, using the plurality of tones and the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of the OFDM second transmission via one or more antennas of a plurality of antennas of the first node.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to further comprise user data.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein a first portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a first portion of the signal modified by user data associated with the second node, and wherein a second portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a second portion of the signal that is not modified by the user data.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to further comprise user data and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

22. The method of claim 18, wherein a first portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a first portion of the signal modified by user data associated with the second node, and wherein a second portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a second portion of the signal that is not modified by the user data.

23. The method of claim 18, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to comprise:

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

the complex sinusoid that identifies the originator of the OFDM second transmission.

24. The method of claim 18, wherein the OFDM second transmission comprises a time series of OFDM symbols, the method further comprising inserting the signal into a first plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols and user data into a second plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols.

25. The method of claim 18, wherein the signal comprises a pilot signal.

26. The method of claim 18, wherein the transmitting comprises transmitting the OFDM second transmission to multiple recipients using a multiple access scheme.

27. A first node comprising:

a plurality of antennas; and

circuitry configured to;

receive a first transmission from a second node;

determine, based at least in part on the first transmission, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of tones;

generate a signal that comprises;

an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex sinusoid that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission; and

cause transmission of the signal, using the plurality of tones and the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of the OFDM second transmission via one or more antennas of the plurality of antennas.

28. The first node of claim 27, wherein a first portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a first portion of the signal modified by user data associated with the second node, and wherein a second portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a second portion of the signal that is not modified by the user data.

29. The first node of claim 27, wherein the signal comprises a pilot signal.

30. The first node of claim 27, wherein the circuitry is configured to cause the signal to be transmitted as at least part of the OFDM second transmission to multiple recipients using a multiple access scheme.

32. The first node of claim 27, wherein the OFDM second transmission comprises a time series of OFDM symbols, and wherein the circuitry is further configured to insert the signal into a first plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols and user data into a second plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols.

31. A method comprising:

receiving, by a first node, a first transmission from a second node;

determining, based at least in part on the first transmission, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of tones;

generating a signal that comprises an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence;

inserting the signal into a first plurality of a time series of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols of an OFDM second transmission and user data into a second plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols of the OFDM second transmission; and

transmitting the signal, using the plurality of tones and the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of the OFDM second transmission via one or more antennas of a plurality of antennas of the first node.

33. The method of claim 31, wherein the signal further comprises an originating node index overlay and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

34. The method of claim 31, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to further comprise a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

35. The method of claim 31, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to further comprise a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

36. The method of claim 31, wherein the generating the signal comprises generating the signal to comprise:

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

37. The method of claim 31, wherein the signal comprises a pilot signal.

38. The method of claim 31, wherein the transmitting comprises transmitting the OFDM second transmission to multiple recipients using a multiple access scheme.

39. A first node comprising:

a plurality of antennas; and

circuitry configured to;

determine, based at least in part on a first transmission received from a second node, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of time-frequency channels; and

cause a signal, comprising an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, to be transmitted via the plurality of time-frequency channels and using the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) second transmission via one or more antennas of the plurality of antennas.

40. The first node of claim 39, wherein the signal comprises the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence modified by an originating node index overlay and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

41. The first node of claim 39, wherein the circuitry is configured to generate the signal to further comprise user data and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

42. The first node of claim 39, wherein a first portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a first portion of the signal modified by user data associated with the second node, and wherein a second portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a second portion of the signal that is not modified by the user data.

43. The first node of claim 39, wherein the circuitry is configured to generate the signal to comprise:

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex sinusoid that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

44. The first node of claim 39, wherein the signal comprises a pilot signal.

45. The first node of claim 39, wherein the circuitry is configured to cause the OFDM second transmission to be transmitted to multiple recipients using a multiple access scheme.

46. The first node of claim 39, wherein the OFDM second transmission comprises a time series of OFDM symbols, and wherein the circuitry is further configured to insert the signal into a first plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols and user data into a second plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols.

47. The first node of claim 39, wherein the circuitry comprises a processor.

48. The first node of claim 39, wherein the circuitry is configured to generate the signal to further comprise a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

49. The first node of claim 39, wherein the circuitry is configured to generate the signal to comprise:

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

50. A system comprising:

a first node comprising;

a plurality of antennas; and

first circuitry configured to;

determine, based at least in part on a first transmission received from a second node, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of time-frequency channels; and

cause a signal, comprising an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence, to be transmitted via the plurality of time-frequency channels and using the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) second transmission via one or more antennas of the plurality of antennas; and

a second node comprising;

at least one antenna; and

second circuitry configured to determine whether to process the OFDM second transmission, received via the at least one antenna of the second node, based at least in part on the recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

51. The system of claim 50, wherein the first circuitry comprises a first processor and the second circuitry comprises a second processor.

52. The system of claim 50, wherein the first circuitry is configured to generate the signal to comprise:

user data;

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

the recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence, wherein the recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex sinusoid that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

53. The system of claim 50, wherein the first node comprises a base station and the second node comprises a mobile device.

54. The system of claim 50, wherein the first circuitry is configured to generate the signal to further comprise a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

55. The system of claim 50, wherein the first circuitry is configured to generate the signal to comprise:

user data;

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

the recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence, wherein the recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

56. A system comprising:

a first node comprising;

a plurality of antennas; and

first circuitry configured to;

determine, based at least in part on a first transmission received from a second node, a plurality of transmission levels, respectively, for a plurality of time-frequency channels; and

cause a signal, comprising an originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, to be transmitted via the plurality of time-frequency channels and using the plurality of transmission levels, as at least part of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) second transmission via one or more antennas of the plurality of antennas; and

a second node comprising;

at least one antenna; and

second circuitry configured to process the OFDM second transmission received via the at least one antenna of the second node.

57. The system of claim 56, wherein the signal comprises the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, an originating node index overlay, and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

58. The system of claim 56, wherein the signal further comprises user data and a recipient-based second pseudorandom sequence.

59. The system of claim 56, wherein a first portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a first portion of the signal modified by user data associated with the second node, and wherein a second portion of the OFDM second transmission comprises a second portion of the signal that is not modified by the user data.

60. The system of claim 56, wherein the signal further comprises a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

61. The system of claim 56, wherein the signal comprises:

the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence, wherein the originator-based first pseudorandom sequence identifies an originating group, associated with the OFDM second transmission, that comprises the first node;

a second pseudorandom sequence that identifies a recipient of the OFDM second transmission; and

a complex signal component that identifies an originator of the OFDM second transmission.

62. The system of claim 56, wherein the signal comprises a pilot signal.

63. The system of claim 56, wherein the first circuitry is configured to cause the signal to be transmitted as at least part of the OFDM second transmission to multiple recipients using a multiple access scheme.

64. The system of claim 56, wherein the OFDM second transmission comprises a time series of OFDM symbols, and wherein the first circuitry is further configured to insert the signal into a first plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols and user data into a second plurality of the time series of OFDM symbols.

65. The system of claim 56, wherein the first node comprises a base station and the second node comprises a mobile terminal.
