1. A headlight control apparatus that controls a headlight unit mounted to a vehicle, comprising:

  • a measuring means for measuring brightness ahead of the vehicle;

    a predicting means for predicting whether or not another vehicle emerges ahead of the vehicle, on the basis of a variation in the brightness of a specified region ahead of the vehicle measured by the measuring means;

    a control means for controlling emission of light from the headlight unit so as to darken an area where the another vehicle emerges, when the predicting means predicts emergence of the another vehicle; and

    a curve determining means for determining whether or not a curved road region is present ahead of the vehicle,wherein the curve determining means includes a means for further determining whether or not a guardrail is present along the curved road region; and

    the predicting means predicts whether or not the another vehicle emerges, on the basis of the variation in the brightness measured by the measuring means for the guardrail provided along the curved road region as the specified region, when the curved road region is determined to be present and the guardrail is determined to be present.
