Unreported event status change determination and alerting
First Claim
1. A method for determining an unreported event status change for an asset within a computer-based asset management system, the asset management system including a data receiver, a database, a processor, and an alert trigger service, the method comprising:
- receiving at the data receiver a first event status of the asset from a wireless reporting source coupled with the asset, the first event status being a most recently received reported event status and indicating that the asset is stationary;
storing the first event status as a maintained event status of the asset in the database;
receiving at the data receiver a first position of the asset from the wireless reporting source at a first time;
receiving at the data receiver a second position of the asset from the wireless reporting source at a second time while the reporting source is in a power conservation operating mode, the second time being later than the first time;
determining at the processor a second event status of the asset indicating that the asset is moving based on a distance between the second position and the first position and a time difference between the second time and the first time;
determining at the processor that the second event status is different from the first event status by comparing the second event status and the first event status;
in response to determining that the second event status is different from the first event status, determining at the processor that the difference is due to a failure to receive an updated event status of the asset from the wireless reporting source; and
issuing through the alert trigger service a status alert regarding the asset in response to determining that second event status satisfies a pre-defined alert reporting criterion.

Abstract
In a method for determining an unreported event status change for an asset, an asset management system receives a position of an asset from a reporting source coupled with the asset. The position is associated with a particular time by the reporting source. The position is compared to a previous position of the asset, the previous position being associated with a previous time that is earlier than the particular time. Based upon the comparing of the position to the previous position, it is determined if an unreported event status change has occurred for the asset.

1. A method for determining an unreported event status change for an asset within a computer-based asset management system, the asset management system including a data receiver, a database, a processor, and an alert trigger service, the method comprising:
-
receiving at the data receiver a first event status of the asset from a wireless reporting source coupled with the asset, the first event status being a most recently received reported event status and indicating that the asset is stationary; storing the first event status as a maintained event status of the asset in the database; receiving at the data receiver a first position of the asset from the wireless reporting source at a first time; receiving at the data receiver a second position of the asset from the wireless reporting source at a second time while the reporting source is in a power conservation operating mode, the second time being later than the first time; determining at the processor a second event status of the asset indicating that the asset is moving based on a distance between the second position and the first position and a time difference between the second time and the first time; determining at the processor that the second event status is different from the first event status by comparing the second event status and the first event status; in response to determining that the second event status is different from the first event status, determining at the processor that the difference is due to a failure to receive an updated event status of the asset from the wireless reporting source; and issuing through the alert trigger service a status alert regarding the asset in response to determining that second event status satisfies a pre-defined alert reporting criterion. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4)

5. A method for issuing a status alert regarding an asset within a computer-based asset management system, the asset management system including a data receiver, a database, a processor, and an alert trigger service, the method comprising:
-
maintaining an alert reporting criterion by the asset management system, the alert reporting criterion for triggering a status alert; receiving at the data receiver a first event status from a wireless reporting source coupled with the asset, the first event status being a most recently received reported event status and indicating whether the asset is moving or stationary; storing the first event status as a maintained event status of the asset in the database; receiving at the data receiver a first position of the asset from the wireless reporting source at a first time; receiving at the data receiver a second position of the asset from the wireless reporting source at a second time while the wireless reporting source is in a power conservation operating mode, the second time being later than the first time; determining at the processor a second event status of the asset based on a distance between the second position and the first position and a time difference between the second time and the first time; determining at the processor that the second event status is different from the first event status by comparing the second event status and the first event status; in response to determining that the second event status is different from the first event status, storing the second event status as an updated maintained event status in lieu of the first event status in the database; determining at the processor that the alert reporting criterion is met based on the updated maintained event status; and issuing through the alert trigger service the status alert regarding the asset in response to determining that the alert reporting criterion is met. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9)

10. An computer-based asset management system comprising:
-
a data receiver configured to; receive a first event status of an asset from a wireless reporting source coupled with the asset the first event status indicating whether the asset is moving or stationary, the first event status being a most recently reported event status; receiving receive a first position of the asset at a first time from the wireless reporting source; and receive a second position of the asset at a second time from the wireless reporting source while the wireless reporting source is in a power conservation operating mode, the second time being later than the first time; a database coupled with the data receiver and configured to store the first event status as a maintained event status of the asset; and a processor coupled with the database and the data receiver, the processor configured to; determine a second event status of the asset based on a distance between the second position and the first position and a time difference between the second time and the first time; determine that the second event status is different from the first event status by comparing the second event status and the first event status; in response to determining that the second event status is different from the first event status, determine that the difference is due to a failure to receive an updated event status of the asset from the wireless reporting source; and issue a status alert regarding the asset in response to determining that second event status satisfies a pre-defined alert reporting criterion. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14)
