1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

  • receiving, via a user interface presented on a mobile device, a request for a desired modification of an original media content item, the desired modification to be applied to the original media content item on another computing device;

    prior to transmitting the request for the desired modification of the original media content item to the other computing device;

    performing, by a processing device of the mobile device, a simplified version of the desired modification of the original media content item at substantially the same time as a receipt of the request for the desired modification via the user interface, wherein the desired modification includes more operations than the simplified version of the desired modification, wherein the operations of the desired modification use one or more reference media content items that are different from the original media content item and are not used for the simplified version of the desired modification, and wherein performing the simplified version of the desired modification of the original media content item involves less computing resources than performing the desired modification of the original media content item; and

    presenting, in the user interface on the mobile device, a preview of a modified media content item resulting from the simplified version of the desired modification; and

    transmitting, to the other computing device, the original media content item with the request for the desired modification to be applied to the original media content item.
