Framework to support a hybrid of meshed endpoints with non-meshed endpoints
First Claim
1. A videoconferencing device configured to act as a hybrid mesh participant in a videoconference environment, the videoconferencing device comprising:
- a hybrid MCU configured to receive and transmit data streams comprising videoconference video media data and audio media data in a videoconference, the hybrid MCU comprisinga processing module configured to mix at least a portion of the video media data and the audio media data received by the hybrid MCU, and wherein the hybrid MCU is configured to transmit the mixed video media data and the mixed audio media data to each non-mesh endpoint in a mixed video/audio data stream;
a forking module configured to fork combined video/audio data streams received by the hybrid MCU into separate video and audio data streams, and wherein the hybrid MCU is configured to transmit the separate video and audio data streams to each mesh endpoint; and
wherein the hybrid MCU is further configured to signal to the mesh endpoints to transmit the combined video/audio data streams to the hybrid MCU.

Abstract
A videoconferencing system includes a hybrid MCU configured to act as a hybrid mesh participant in a videoconference. The hybrid MCU may include a processing module to mix videoconference media data received by the hybrid MCU in data streams transmitted from mesh and non-mesh endpoints. The hybrid MCU may further include a forking module to fork combined video/audio data streams received by the hybrid MCU to provide separate video and audio data streams to each mesh endpoint. The hybrid MCU may be configured to provide a mixed video/audio data steam to each non-mesh endpoint of the videoconference.

8. A method of combining meshed and non-meshed devices in a single videoconference comprising:
-
receiving data streams comprising video media data and audio media data from videoconference participants comprising mesh endpoints and non-mesh endpoints; mixing at least a portion of the video media data and the audio media data received with a hybrid MCU; providing a mixed video/audio data stream to each non-mesh endpoint; providing separate video and audio data streams from each non-mesh endpoint to each mesh endpoint, wherein providing separate video and audio data streams from each non-mesh endpoint to each mesh endpoint comprises forking combined video/audio data streams received into the separate video and audio data streams; and signaling with the hybrid MCU to the mesh endpoints to transmit the combined video/audio data streams. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
