Abstract

Navigating on a display includes tracking motion of an input tool on a display, comparing a motion of the input tool to a threshold, and changing a position of the visible portion of a page of information on the display if the input tool motion exceeds the threshold. The position of the visible portion of the page of information on the display is constrained if the motion does not exceed the threshold.

Claims

1. A mobile device, comprising:

a touchscreen operable to display content including a plurality of portions;

a processor; and

computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to;

display a first portion from the plurality of portions of the content;

shift displayed content in response to a touch input, wherein the touch input comprises touching a portion of the touchscreen corresponding to a first point of the displayed content and dragging from the first point to a second point;

determine whether the touch input satisfies a predetermined threshold,

if the touch input satisfies the predetermined threshold, shift the displayed content from the first portion to a second portion from the plurality of portions of the content; and

if the touch input does not satisfy the predetermined threshold, shift the displayed content within the first portion of content.

2. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the instructions when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to shift the displayed content from the first portion to the second portion according to a direction of the dragging if a distance from the first point to the second point is equal to or greater than a predetermined distance.

The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to shifts the displayed content according to a direction of the dragging within a boundary of the first portion including the first point if a distance from the first point to the second point is less than a predetermined distance.

4. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the instructions, when executed be processor, cause the mobile device to limits shifting of the displayed content if a dragged distance is less than a predetermined distance.

5. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the instructions when executed by the processer, cause the mobile device, to zooms the displayed content in and out in response to one or more additional touch inputs.

6. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of portions are configured as a column structure with each of the plurality of portions displayed in a different column.

7. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to enlarged the displayed content in response to a second touch input.

8. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the content comprises a web page.

9. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the first portion and the second portion are adjacent to each other along a horizontal direction.

10. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein shifting the displayed content from the first portion to the second portion comprises shifting the displayed content horizontally.

11. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein shifting the displayed content within the first portion comprises shifting the displayed content vertically.

12. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein shifting the displayed content within the first portion allows a user to view more of the first portion.

13. The mobile device of claim 12, wherein the touch input comprises a vertical component and a horizontal component.

14. The mobile device of claim 13, wherein determining whether the touch input satisfies the predetermined threshold comprises determining whether the horizontal component of the touch input satisfies the predetermined threshold.

15. A method comprising:

displaying a first portion of content, wherein the content comprises a plurality of portions;

shifting, using at least one processor, displayed content in response to a touch input, wherein the touch input comprises touching a portion of a touchscreen corresponding to a first point of the displayed content and dragging from the first point to a second point on the touchscreen;

determining whether the touch input satisfies a predetermined threshold;

if the touch input satisfies the predetermined threshold, shifting the displayed content from the first portion to a second portion from the plurality of portions of the content, and

if the touch input does not satisfy the predetermined threshold, shifting the displayed content within the first portion of content.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the plurality of portions comprise a plurality of columns.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising displaying an enlarged view of the displayed content in response to a second touch input.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the content comprises a web page.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the displayed content is shifted from the first portion to the second portion if a dragged distance of the touch input is equal to or greater than a predetermined distance.

20. The method of claim 15, wherein shifting of the displayed content is limited if a dragged distance of the touch input is less than a predetermined distance.

21. The method of claim 15, wherein the first portion and the second portion are adjacent to each other along a horizontal direction.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein shifting the displayed content from the first portion to the second portion comprises shifting the displayed content horizontally.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein shifting the displayed content within the first portion comprises shifting the displayed content vertically.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein shifting the displayed content within the first portion allows a user to view more of the first portion.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the touch input comprises a vertical component and a horizontal component.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein determining whether the touch input satisfies the predetermined threshold comprises determining whether the horizontal component of the touch input satisfies the predetermined threshold.
