- a communications interface with an onboard diagnostics system of a first vehicle;
a display device;
a mobile device processor for executing computer-executable instructions;
a memory storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by the processor cause the apparatus to perform steps comprising;
after occurrence of a roadside event to the first vehicle, receiving input at the apparatus related to an electronic membership card;
retrieving, from a data store, membership information associated with the first vehicle;
updating, by the apparatus, the electronic membership card with the membership information from the data store;
displaying, by the apparatus, the electronic membership card on the display device having a proximity to the first vehicle;
receiving, through the communications interface, a vehicle diagnostic code from the first vehicle; and
selecting a roadside assistance service based on at least the vehicle diagnostic code when the membership information obtained from the electronic membership card is indicative that roadside assistance services are available to the first vehicle.
