1. A method for making a linerless label media suitable for use in a thermal printer having a cutting mechanism, said method comprising:

  • providing a substrate having a first side and a second side opposite the first side and a longitudinal axis, said first side of the substrate having a thermosensitive coating;

    applying a base coat on the second side of the substrate;

    applying an adhesive layer over the base coat on the second side of the substrate, wherein the adhesive layer is substantially continuous along the longitudinal axis of the substrate such that substantially any lateral cut of the substrate by a printer intersects with the adhesive layer and wherein the base coat prevents migration of the adhesive layer into the substrate; and

    applying a release layer over the thermally sensitive coating on the first side of the substrate.
