Sport performance system with ball sensing
First Claim
1. A player training apparatus for use with a portable performance system including a processor, a memory and a display, the training apparatus comprising:
- an American-style football;
at least one sensor coupled to the football;
at least one transmitter coupled to the football and operably coupled to the sensor; and
a non-transient computer-readable medium containing code to direct the processor to;
receive signals from the sensor coupled to the football during a continuous motion of the football comprising multiple individual football events;
identify the multiple individual football events forming the continuous motion of the football based upon the signals received from the sensor;
determine starting points and endpoints for each of the identified multiple individual football events based upon the signals received from the sensor;
for each identified individual football event of the continuous football motion, adding and storing individual results, that are based upon the signals received from the sensor, to a category of a bank of available results corresponding to the individual football event;
display information relating to the input; and
transmit a selected one of the individual results from the bank to a video game for use in the video game, wherein other individual results stored in the bank are not transmitted but are available for future transmission to the videogame.

Abstract
A player training apparatus for use with a portable performance system. The portable performance system includes a processor, a memory and a display. The training apparatus includes an American-style football, at least one sensor coupled to the football, at least one transmitter coupled to the football and operably coupled to the sensor, and a non-transient computer-readable medium containing code. The code directs the processor to: retrieve a football instructional package from the memory regarding an act with the football; display the football instructional package on the display; instruct the player to perform the act with the football; receive input pertaining to motion of the football; store information related to the input into the memory; and display information relating to the input.

14. An apparatus comprising:
-
an American-style football; at least one sensor coupled to the football;
at least one transmitter coupled to the football and operably coupled to the sensor; anda non-transient computer-readable medium containing code to direct the processor to; instruct the player to perform a particular type of act with the football; receive input pertaining to motion of the football for the act; determine a travel distance of the football based upon the received input; adjust the travel distance of the football based upon a handicapping system that is based upon characteristics of the player; and present a videogame involving a simulation of the act with the football, wherein the simulation of the act with the football is based upon the adjusted travel distance of the football. - View Dependent Claims (15)
