1. A parking system comprising:

  • a computerized parking management system;

    a first single-space parking meter comprising a first solar panel, a first battery and first wireless communications hardware configured to communicate parking data and data related to the operation of the first solar panel between the first single-space parking meter and the parking management system via a wireless network, the first single-space parking meter further comprising a first vehicle sensor configured to identify entry of a vehicle into a parking space associated with the first single-space parking meter and detect presence of the vehicle within the parking space associated with the first single-space parking meter, wherein data generated by the first vehicle sensor is communicated to the parking management system via the first wireless communications hardware and the first single space meter is configured to initiate a change in a display based upon the identified entry;

    a second single-space parking meter comprising a second solar panel, a second battery and second wireless communications hardware configured to communicate parking data and data related to the operation of the second solar panel between the second single-space parking meter and the parking management system via the wireless network, the second single-space parking meter further comprising a second vehicle sensor configured to identify entry of a vehicle into a parking space associated with the second single-space parking meter and detect presence of the vehicle within the parking space associated with the second single-space parking meter, wherein data generated by the second vehicle sensor is communicated to the parking management system via the second wireless communications hardware and the second single space meter is configured to initiate a change in a display based upon the identified entry; and

    an interface supporting a mobile citation unit including third wireless communications hardware configured to communicate parking enforcement data between the mobile citation unit and the parking management system via the wireless network;

    wherein the parking management system processes and stores the parking data and the data related to the operation of the first and second solar panels received from the first and second single-space parking meters and processes and stores enforcement data from the mobile citation unit.
