1. A system, comprising:

  • a transcutaneous analyte sensor in contact with bodily fluid under skin of a patient, the analyte sensor configured to generate data signals corresponding to monitored analyte levels;

    a receiving device; and

    sensor electronics coupled to the analyte sensor to receive the data signals, the sensor electronics configured to be inductively powered by an electromagnetic field and to transmit signals to the receiving device;

    wherein the receiving device includes an electromagnetic field generator to generate the electromagnetic field to inductively power the sensor electronics, the electromagnetic field generator including;

    an RF detection unit to receive the transmitted signals from the sensor electronics; and

    a threshold detection unit coupled to the RF detection unit to determine whether to generate the electromagnetic field based on at least one characteristic of the received signals from the sensor electronics.
