Abstract

This invention relates to the design and function of a single-tether compressible valve replacement prosthesis which can be deployed into a beating heart without extracorporeal circulation using a transcatheter delivery system. The design as discussed combats the process of wear on anchoring tethers over time by using a plurality of stent-attached, centering tethers, which are themselves attached to a single anchoring tether, which extends through the ventricle and is anchored to a securing device located on the epicardium.

Claims

1. An apparatus, comprising:

a prosthetic heart valve including an expandable tubular stent body having a cuff and a leaflet assembly, at least three tether members each having a first end portion coupled to the expandable tubular stent body and a second end portion, the second end portion of the at least three tether members braided together at a coupling point to form a single braided anchoring tether extending from the coupling point,

the single braided anchoring tether configured to extend through the heart and to be secured to an epicardial surface of the heart when the prosthetic heart valve is implanted within the heart.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of tether members includes one of two tether members, three tether members and four tether members.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a tether securing device configured to secure the single braided anchoring tether to the epicardial surface; and

a locking peg device configured to secure the single anchoring tether to the tether securing device.

The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the locking peg device includes a cap component defining a longitudinally extending interior region and at least one laterally extending pin hole that intersects the longitudinally extending interior region, the longitudinally extending interior region configured to receive a portion of the single braided anchoring tether therein,

the at least one laterally extending pin hole configured to receive a pin to pierce the single braided anchoring tether and secure the single braided anchoring tether to the cap component.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the expandable tubular stent body and the plurality of tether members are integrally formed with one of a superelastic metal and a shape-memory metal.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein each tether member from the plurality of tether members is formed with a nickel-titanium alloy.
