Method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a frame supporting a short MAC header in wireless LAN system
First Claim
1. A method for managing a sequence number in a wireless LAN (WLAN) system, comprising:
- receiving, by a second station (STA), a frame including a compressed MAC header from a first STA; and
checking, by the second STA, a corresponding cache to determine whether the frame is a duplicated frame, wherein the compressed MAC header includes a receiver address (RA) field, a transmitter address (TA) field and a sequence control field, wherein the sequence control field includes a sequence number value for the frame, wherein when the frame is an uplink (UL) frame the TA field includes an associated identifier (AID) value, wherein when the frame is a downlink (DL) frame the RA field includes the AID value, wherein when the TA field includes the AID value, the corresponding cache is checked based on a STA MAC address identified by the AID value and the sequence number value, andwherein when the frame is determined to be the duplicated frame, the STA MAC address identified by the AID value and the sequence number value contained in the compressed MAC header are respectively identical to an STA MAC address and a sequence number value of the corresponding cache.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving a frame supporting a short MAC header in a wireless LAN (WLAN) system are disclosed. A method for managing a sequence number in a wireless LAN (WLAN) system includes: transmitting, by a first station (STA), a frame including a short MAC header to a second STA. One of a receiver address (RA) field and a transmitter address (TA) field contained in the short MAC header includes an associated identifier (AID) value according to whether a transmission direction of the frame is an uplink (UL) or downlink (DL) direction, and if the RA field includes the AID value, the sequence number for the frame is assigned based on a station (STA) MAC address identified by the AID value.

5. A station (STA) for managing a sequence number in a wireless LAN (WLAN) system, comprising:
-
a transceiver that receives a frame including a compressed MAC header from another STA; and a processor that checks a corresponding cache to determine whether the frame is a duplicated frame, wherein the compressed MAC header including a receiver address (RA) field, a transmitter address (TA) field and a sequence control field, wherein the sequence control field includes a sequence number value for the frame, wherein when the frame is an uplink (UL) frame the TA field includes an associated identifier (AID) value, wherein when the frame is a downlink (DL) frame the RA field includes the AID value, wherein when the TA field includes the AID value, the corresponding cache is checked based on a STA MAC address identified by the AID value and the sequence number value, and wherein when the frame is determined to be the duplicated frame, the STA MAC address identified by the AID value and the sequence number value contained in the compressed MAC header are respectively identical to an STA MAC address and a sequence number value of the corresponding cache.
