1. A digitizer system comprising:

  • a stylus comprising;

    a housing;

    a writing tip, wherein the writing tip is configured to protrude from the housing; and

    three transmitters for transmitting signals, wherein the two transmitters are positioned along the housing at a pre-defined distance from one another;

    wherein one of the three transmitting elements is configured to transmit a signal around the writing tip of the stylus and wherein another of the three transmitting elements is configured to transmit a signal from a position off a longitudinal axis of the stylusa digitizer sensor configured to sense signals transmitted by each of the three transmitters at its projected location on a sensing surface of the digitizer sensor;

    a circuit associated with the digitizer sensor, the circuit configured to track the projected location on the digitizer sensor of each of the three transmitters based on the signals sensed; and

    a processor configured to;

    track both position of the writing tip and orientation of the housing based on the projected locations; and

    recognize a user input to the sensing surface based on both the position of the writing tip and the orientation of the stylus.
