1. An audio-video communication and answering system, said system comprising:
- at least one wireless exterior module having a proximity sensor, a video camera, a microphone, a speaker, an electrical connection, a keypad having one or more buttons, an RF transmitter, and an RF receiver;
a software application including a graphical user interface that enables a user to view streaming video transmitted from the at least one wireless exterior module and receive real-time audio from the at least one wireless exterior module;
a wireless router, wherein the wireless router enables communication through the Internet between the at least one wireless exterior module and at least one remote peripheral device, which is a cell phone; and
the at least one wireless exterior module further comprising a recording component that records video and audio communication that is transmitted to the at least one remote peripheral device,wherein the recorded video can be viewed in real time or at a later time on the graphical user interface,wherein the at least one wireless exterior module is configured to transmit an alert to a cell phone upon detection of a person at an entrance by the proximity sensor or if the one or more buttons of the at least one wireless exterior module are pressed, andwherein the at least one wireless exterior module is operable to record digital audio, digital video, or any combination thereof in response to an event separate and apart from detection by the proximity sensor or pressing of the one or more buttons on the at least one wireless exterior module.

Abstract
An audio-video communication system comprises a wireless exterior module located proximate an entrance, a computerized controller running a software application, and a remote peripheral device. The wireless exterior module includes a proximity sensor for detecting a person at the entrance, a video camera for recording an image of the person at the entrance, a microphone for recording the person at the entrance, a speaker for playing audio to the person at the entrance, a transmitter for communicating sounds and images of the person at the entrance, and a receiver for receiving communications at the wireless exterior module. The computerized controller is disposed in wireless electronic communication with the wireless exterior module via the transmitter and the receiver of the wireless exterior module. The remote peripheral device is configured to electronically communicate with the computerized controller for viewing an image from the video camera communicated from the wireless exterior module.

A method for audio-video communication with visitors to a business or residence, wherein the method utilizes at least one exterior module having a proximity sensor, a video camera, a microphone, a speaker, a keypad having one or more buttons, an RF transmitter, an RF receiver, a software application, and a wireless router, the method comprising:

enabling, via the wireless router, wireless communication through the Internet between the at least one exterior module and at least one remote peripheral device, which is a cell phone, after at least one of the one or more buttons are pressed on the keypad; transmitting a prompt to the at least one remote peripheral device upon detection of visitors to the business or residence by the proximity sensor or if the one or more buttons of the keypad of the at least one exterior module are pressed; after the prompt has been transmitted to the at least one remote peripheral device, streaming video from the at least one exterior module to the at least one remote peripheral device and displaying the streaming video via a graphical user interface on the at least one remote peripheral device; providing audio from the at least one exterior module to the at least one peripheral device; recording video and audio communication using the at least one exterior module; and providing recorded video on the graphical user interface associated with the peripheral device. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20)

15. The method of 11 further comprising the steps of:

storing time-stamped video or audio data received by the at least one exterior module; creating a redundant system of the stored video or audio data from the at least one exterior module; transmitting video from an interior transceiver comprising a video camera that is located within the business or residence to the software application; displaying video from the interior transceiver on the software application; and transmitting audio from the interior transceiver to the software application, wherein the interior transceiver is configured to receive instructions from the software application. - View Dependent Claims (16)
