1. A mobile device tracker for tracking movement of mobile devices within a mobile communications environment, the mobile device tracker comprising:

  • an acquisition device to periodically acquire Douglas-Peucker reduction algorithm processed data related to network performance data of the mobile communications environment, which is collected by and stored in a mobile device as it moves within the mobile communications environment;

    a database configured to store the periodically acquired Douglas-Peucker reduction algorithm processed data, the database being configured to purge oldest data to control resource consumption; and

    a plotter to identify the acquired Douglas-Peucker reduction algorithm processed data stored in the database as an approximation of the network performance data monitored by the mobile device on a map of a geographical region within the mobile communications environment, wherein the network performance data includes at least one of received signal strength, data transmit/receive rates, and error rates,wherein the periodically acquired Douglas-Peucker reduction algorithm processed data further includes location and time data from the mobile device, and the plotter is additionally structured to connect in chronological order the location data plotted on the map to track movement of the mobile device.
