Device for controlling a fan drive (10, 12) of a charge air cooler (2) of an internal combustion engine (15), having a control device (6) for the fan drive (10, 12), characterized in that the control device (6) has a plurality of input variables, wherein the plurality of input variables are engine data (70, 72, 74), wherein the engine data (70, 72, 74) are current load data of the internal combustion engine (15) and the engine data (70, 72, 74) are taken from a bus line of an engine controller for the internal combustion engine (15), and the engine data are used to determine a cooling requirement for charge air to be cooled by means of an engine model, so that the fan drive can be adapted in advance or in a controlled manner simultaneously with a change in charge air temperature, the change in the charge air temperature is caused by a change in the operating state of the internal combustion engine, and wherein one input variable is the charge air temperature (76), the charge air temperature (76) is the charge air temperature (76) at the output of the charge air cooler (2), and the regulating device additionally determines a cooling demand for the charge air by means of the charge air temperature, and wherein the two cooling demands are compared by the regulating device, and wherein the fan drive is controlled by the regulating device as a function of the greater cooling demand.
