1. A process for the preparation of a solid comprising ZnO and a binder, the process comprising the steps of:

  • a) premixing powders comprising at least one ZnO powder and at least one binder;

    b) mixing a paste obtained by;

    i) contacting the premixed powder with a solution comprising a peptizing agent, resulting in the production of a paste;

    ii) mixing the paste;

    c) extruding the paste obtained in step b) at a pressure ranging from 3 to 10 MPa;

    d) drying the extrudate obtained in step c) at a temperature ranging from 70 ℃

    to 160 ℃

    for a time ranging from 1 to 24 hours;

    e) calcining the dried extrudate in a gas stream comprising oxygen at a temperature in the range of 200 ℃

    to 800 ℃

    for a time of 1 to 6 hours;

    wherein the peptizing agent used in step i) is an inorganic acid or an organic mono-or di-carboxylic acid, and said step i) uses a solution comprising said peptizing agent and the dopant sodium ion Na+Is carried out with the solution of (a),wherein the content of doping elements is between 0.1% and 10% by weight with respect to the dry mass of ZnO used, and the ZnO content of the final solid is between 30 and 98% by weight with respect to the total weight of the solid.
