1. A sterile device for preventing neuroma formation at a severed nerve stump, comprising:

  • a body having an open proximal end and a closed distal end integrally formed with the body, wherein the body of the device is less than 100mm in diameter and less than 500mm in length;

    a body comprising a closed distal end defining an interior chamber, the interior chamber being free of openings other than the proximal end, the interior chamber inhibiting axonal escape from the device when the device is implanted in a nerve stump by inserting the nerve stump into the opening at the proximal end;

    a partition located within the internal chamber capable of subdividing the internal chamber to create a plurality of separate volumes in which regenerated axons grow such that one or more regenerated axons are physically isolated from one or more other regenerated axons;

    wherein the device comprises a biomaterial that remodels into a tissue cushion upon implantation.
