1. An electronic device capable of detecting a fingerprint by optical sensing, comprising:

  • a device screen providing touch sensitive operation and comprising a display panel structure having light emitting display pixels, each pixel operable to emit light to form part of a display image;

    a top transparent layer formed over the device screen as a user touch interface for the touch sensitive operation and as an interface for transmitting the light from the display panel structure to display an image to a user; and

    an optical sensor module located below the display panel structure to receive light emitted by at least a portion of the light emitting display pixels of the display panel structure and returned from the top transparent layer to detect a fingerprint;

    wherein the optical sensor module comprises an optical sensor array further comprising an optical collimator array or a pinhole array in a path of the returned light transmitted to the optical sensor array, one optical sensor of the optical sensor array receiving optical signals from a plurality of collimators of the optical collimator array or optical signals of a plurality of pinholes of the pinhole array;

    the optical sensor module is coupled to a back side of the display panel structure, the display panel structure including a fingerprint illumination area having light emitting display pixels for providing illumination light for optical fingerprint sensing, wherein the light emitting display pixels of the fingerprint illumination area are controlled to operate at a higher brightness level than a brightness level of a normal display image when the optical sensor module performs fingerprint sensing.
