Helferich Sues Best Buy

Helferich Patent Licensing (HPL) [NPE] filed suit against Best Buy over three patents related to sending advertisement alerts to smartphones.  HPL has filed suit 12 times since 2008 against defendants including Asustek, HP, Futurewei, Huawei, NEC, Nokia, Palm, Panasonic, Sanyo, and ZTE. The patents-in-suit were issued to inventor Richard Helferich between July of 2000 and March of 2009.  In the complaint, HPL claims to be the exclusive licensee of 25 US patents and 11 pending US applications all related to delivering content to mobile communications devices.  HPL also claims to have licensed its portfolio to more than 80 companies including Amazon, Apple, Dell, eBay, HP, Microsoft, Motorola Mobility, Palm, and RIM.  9/30, Northern District of Illinois, 1:2011cv06914.
