Marathon Patent Group Launches New Campaign Targeting Pay TV Providers and Content Delivery Networking Companies
Marathon Patent Group subsidiary CRFD Research filed its first suits this week in against Akamai, AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, DirecTV, Dish Network, Level 3 Communications, Limelight Network, and Time Warner Cable. Defendants’ media streaming services are the accused products in each case but the filings can be divided into two groups, each one involving a different patent. Three of the cases, involving Akamai, Level 3, and Limelight, assert a patent related to rendering and formatting web page content on a mobile device (7,574,486). The remaining seven litigations assert a patent related to redirecting streaming media content from one device to another (7,191,233). CRFD acquired both patents from TeleCommunication Systems in September 2013.
