Microsoft’s Products and Its Customers Targeted by STAR Co’s New Subsidiary

July 24, 2014

A new STAR Co subsidiary, Star Co Ranger Digital (SCRD), began its litigation campaign with a single suit that named American Airlines, Black Knight, Imation, Kingston Technology, and Microsoft as defendants. Microsoft’s Window’s To Go device, a portable user operating environment stored on a USB device, is accused of infringing the single asserted patent as are other products made or sold by defendants that are certified for use with Windows To Go. The patent-in-suit (8,694,694) relates to transporting a user’s computer environment across multiple host computers without using a network connection. SCRD acquired the patents from ThinkTank One Research, an entity involved in technology development that filed several suits in its own right asserting several other patents. The assignment took place in July 2014, less than ten days before this suit was filed. 7/22, Eastern District of Texas, 2:14cv00793
