Following Termination of PTAB Proceedings, CDR Printing Adds New Defendants to Its Campaign
After recent termination of both an IPR and CBM review of its 7,271,929 patent, CDR Printing LLC, an Empire IP LLC subsidiary, asserted the patent in new suits against Barnes & Noble (2:15-cv-01280), Starbucks (2:15-cv-01282), Target (2:15-cv-01281), and Time Warner Cable (2:15-cv-01279). CDR began litigating the ‘929 patent, which relates to creation and printing of electronic documents with dynamic content, in July 2014. Since then the campaign has hit ten companies including Canon, FedEx, HP, Office Depot, Staples, and Walgreen. The cases focus on the defendants’ products and services for formatting, printing, and/or delivering documents. To date, CDR has dismissed its cases against Canon and FedEx (both with prejudice); the remaining eight cases are active.
