SciTel Asserts Fourth Patent Received in “Sham” Transaction

Scientific Telecommunications LLC (SciTel) has opened up a second litigation campaign, asserting a single patent (6,519,259) generally related to improving packet-based voice communications against VT iDirect (1:16-cv-00436). SciTel accuses the defendant of infringement through provision of satellite communicates via its iDirect Evolution DVB-S2/ACM system. (DVB-S2 is a second generation standard for digital video broadcast by satellite.) The ‘259 patent is the last of the four patents that SciTel received from Trident IP Solutions, LLC in late 2014—in what prior defendants have characterized as a “sham” transaction—to be asserted in litigation.
