DigiMedia Keeps Filing, Even over “Head Portion” Patent Swiss-Cheesed by IPR
DigiMedia Tech, LLC, a plaintiff associated with Georgia monetization firm IP Investments Group LLC (d/b/a IPinvestments Group), has extended its file-and-dismiss litigation over patents received from Intellectual Ventures LLC (IV), suing Ricoh (Ricoh Imaging Americas) (1:23-cv-00082) over the provision of various camera products. Ricoh is accused of infringing four of the 16 patents already asserted in this campaign, including one that lost more than half of its claims to an inter partes review (IPR) in May 2022. From May to September 2020, DigiMedia included that patent among those asserted against Fujifilm, Olympus, Sakar, Nikon, JK Imaging, and Elite Brands (in that order), highlighting claims 21-23 in its various complaints. In a November 2020 petition, Unified Patents challenged those claims, as well as 14 others, leading to their May 2022 cancellation. However, beginning with a December 2020 complaint (against Panasonic) through to this new complaint against Ricoh, DigiMedia has continued to assert the patent, highlighting a different claim—one unchallenged via IPR—instead.
