Longtime Monetization Professional, with Past Ties to IPNav and Dominion, Goes Solo Again, Sues Samsung

April 8, 2018

Guy Fielder, inventor turned patent monetization professional, resigned from his reported CEO and CTO positions with Monument Patent Holdings LLC, the litigation management arm of Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC, at the end of December 2017. In doing so, he announced that he would “focus more on [his] inventions and prepare to make another run at creating a company with [his] patent portfolio”. That company is PACid Technologies, LLC, which this past week filed suit, accusing Samsung (2:18-cv-00133) of infringing two Fielder patents generally related to authenticating the user of a computing device. The accused products are Samsung devices that use biometrics in alleged compliance with “the authentication protocol adopted by the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, employing the FIDO Universal Authentication Framework (UAF)”, including certain Galaxy products that include “FIDO-ready applications” (e.g., Samsung Pass and/or PayPal).
