PACid Technologies, LLC has revived its sole litigation campaign, which saw brief litigation in 2018 against Samsung and in 2019 against Thales (Gemalto). In a new Western District of Texas complaint, the plaintiff accuses Bank of America (1:23-cv-00251) of infringing six patents, four previously in suit, two issuing since late 2019, and all of them generally related to authenticating the user of a computing device. PACid targets the provision of software products (e.g., mobile apps) and servers that are compliant with authentication protocols supported by the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, including the FIDO Universal Authentication Framework (UAF), calling out the use of biometric authentication (e.g., fingerprint and facial recognition) in the new complaint.
