IP Edge Begins Litigating New Video Processing Portfolio

For the first time, IP Edge LLC has asserted in litigation one of the patents received from France Brevets SAS this past March. Through Burley Licensing LLC, the Texas monetization firm has filed separate Western District of Texas suits against Micro-Star International (6:21-cv-00862) and Walmart (6:21-cv-00863), accusing each of infringing a single video quality patent. Targeted is the respective provision of laptops and computer hardware equipped with graphics processing units (GPUs) that support the NVIDIA NVENC encoder.

IP Edge Picks Up Portfolio from France Brevets

Another portfolio acquisition by IP Edge LLC has popped up in assignment records made public by the USPTO, this one comprising 11 US patents generally related to video processing/streaming. The original development work for all but one of the assets was conducted at Thomson Licensing, with the eleventh patent originally issuing to Nokia. All passed through France Brevets SAS on their way to ownership by the Texas monetization firm, no doubt in preparation for coming litigation campaigns.

Familiar Faces Form a Raft of New NPEs

Public records reflect a rash of NPE creation in recent months, including by some of the most active patent monetizers in the IP space today. If past practices are precedent, patent assignments to these recently formed NPEs are likely in the pipeline—followed by the launch of new litigation campaigns later this year.
