Lightside Technologies, LLC continues to add defendants to the litigation campaign that it began back in November 2016, suing Westinghouse Electronics (5:20-cv-00378) in the Central District of California and HTC (3:20-cv-00725) in the Northern District of Texas. Each complaint asserts different members of the same patent family, generally related to upscaling video content and providing video frame-rate conversion—with two family members asserted against HTC over the provision of HTC One series smartphones with slow-motion video capture and one family member against Westinghouse, targeting the provision of HDTVs and UHDTVs with MEMC (motion estimation/motion compensation) features.

Lightside Technologies, LLC has followed up last month’s complaint against TCL Communication Technology (5:19-cv-01458) in the Central District of California with a new case this month against ZTE (3:19-cv-02128), filed in the Northern District of Texas. Each complaint asserts two different members of the same patent family, generally related to upscaling video content and providing video frame-rate conversion. Accused of infringement are TCL’s Roku HDTVs and UHDTVs and certain ZTE Axon smartphones with slow-motion video features. Previously, Lightside sued VIZIO (in 2017), Haier (in 2018), and Hisense (in 2019), each of which cases is now closed, the last administratively so to facilitate the finalization of a settlement.

Lightside Technologies, LLC has filed its first litigation, accusing VIZIO (2:16-cv-01250) of infringing two patents (6,370,198; 8,842,727) generally related to upscaling video content and providing video frame-rate conversion. Accused of infringement are the motion- and picture-processing engines used in certain VIZIO HDTVs and ultra-high-definition TVs (UHDTVs) that allegedly provide the claimed upscaling and conversion features.
