Abstract

An automated banking machine (12) is operative to conduct transactions in response to HTML documents and TCP/IP messages exchanged with a local computer system (14) through an intranet (16), as well as in response to messages exchanged with foreign servers (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 96) in a wide area network (18). The banking machine includes a computer (34) having an HTML document handling portion (76, 80, 82). The HTML document handling portion is operative to communicate through a proxy server (88), with a home HTTP server (90) in the intranet or the foreign servers in the wide area network. The computer further includes a device application portion (84) which interfaces with the HTML document handling portion and dispatches messages to operate devices (36) in the automated banking machine. The devices include a sheet dispenser mechanism (42) which dispenses currency as well as other transaction devices.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

(a) determining that a document address is operative to enable transfer of at least one HTTP record corresponding to the address by performing a record pre-check, with a computer operating in an automated banking machine wherein the pre-check does not include a full download of the at least one HTTP record;

(b) subsequent to step (a), transferring the at least one HTTP record to the computer during a transaction sequence with the automated banking machine.

26. The method according to claim 1 wherein the transferring includes fully downloading the at least one HTTP record.

27. The method according to claim 26 wherein the automated banking machine includes an automated teller machine (ATM), wherein the ATM includes a currency dispenser, and wherein the transaction sequence includes dispensing currency from the ATM.

28. The method according to claim 1 wherein a server is in operative connection with the computer, and wherein step (a) includes determining if the server is operative.

29. The method according to claim 28 wherein the computer includes a browser, wherein the at least one HTTP record must be accessed through the server, and wherein step (b) includes accessing the at least one HTTP record with the browser.

30. The method according to claim 28 wherein the at least one HTTP record must be accessed through the server, and wherein step (a) comprises operating an applet to make a socket connection to the address in determining that the server is operative.

31. The method according to claim 1 wherein step (a) includes beginning a first download of the at least one HTTP record, and wherein step (b) includes beginning a separate second download of the at least one HTTP record.

32. A method comprising:

(a) determining with a computer in an automated banking machine if an HTTP record is obtainable by the computer from an address, and

(b) responsive to the determination in step (a) either;

(b1) operating the computer to obtain the HTTP record from the address if the HTTP record is determined to be obtainable in step (a), or

(b2) operating the computer to obtain an alternative HTTP record from an alternative address if the HTTP record is determined not to be obtainable in step (a).

33. The method according to claim 32 wherein step (a) includes beginning a first download of the HTTP record, and wherein step (b) includes beginning a separate download of an HTTP record.

34. The method according to claim 33 wherein step (b1) includes beginning a separate second download of the HTTP record, and wherein step (b2) includes beginning a first download of the alternative HTTP record.

35. The method according to claim 32 wherein the computer includes a browser, and wherein step (b) includes accessing at least one HTTP record with the browser, wherein at least one server is in operative connection with the computer, and wherein both step (a) and step (b) include using a server.

36. The method according to claim 32 and further comprising:

(c) subsequent to step (b), operating the computer during a transaction being performed with the machine to access an HTTP record obtained in one of step (b1) and step (b2).

37. The method according to claim 32 and further comprising:

(c) performing a transaction with the automated banking machine.

38. The method according to claim 37 wherein the automated banking machine includes an automated teller machine (ATM), wherein the ATM includes a currency dispenser, and wherein step (c) includes dispensing currency from the ATM.

39. The method according to claim 38 wherein the HTTP record obtained in step (b) includes a dispense instruction, and wherein step (c) includes dispensing currency from the ATM responsive to the dispense instruction.

40. A method comprising:

(a) determining if an HTTP record is obtainable from an address during a record pre-check with an automated banking machine apparatus computer,

(b) subsequent to step (a), either;

if the HTTP record is determined to be obtainable in step (a), then

(b1) obtaining the HTTP record with operation of the computer, or

if the HTTP record is determined not to be obtainable in step (a), then

(b2) obtaining an alternative HTTP record from an alternative address with operation of the computer,

(c) operating the automated banking machine apparatus using at least one instruction included in an HTTP record obtained in step (b).

41. The method according to claim 40 wherein step (c) includes performing a transaction with the automated banking machine apparatus using the at least one instruction.

42. The method according to claim 41 wherein the automated banking machine apparatus includes an automated teller machine (ATM), wherein the ATM includes a currency dispenser, wherein the HTTP record obtained in step (b) includes a dispense instruction, and wherein step (c) includes dispensing currency from the ATM responsive to the dispense instruction.

43. The method according to claim 40 wherein the computer includes a browser, and wherein step (b) includes accessing an HTTP record with the browser.

44. The method according to claim 40 wherein step (a) includes beginning a first download of the HTTP record, wherein step (b1) includes beginning a separate second download of the HTTP record, and wherein step (b2) includes beginning a first download of the alternative HTTP record.
