Abstract

An electrochemical sensor system and membrane and method thereof for increased accuracy and effective life of electrochemical and enzyme sensors.

20. A method for removing interfering agents from a polymeric membrane layer comprising:

providing an electrochemical sensor comprising an electrode, said electrode including a composite membrane disposed thereon, said composite membrane comprising at least one polymeric membrane;

providing an electrical source in electrical contact with said electrode;

applying an electrical potential with the electrical source to said electrode sufficient to cause at least a portion of the interfering agents in said composite membrane to be removed; and

measuring a signal generated by the electrode by use of the electrical source,

wherein the electrical source is in electrical communication with the electrode during the measuring of the signal and the removal of interfering agents from the membrane.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein said electrical potential comprises a range of about 0.1 to 0.8 V versus an on-board reference electrode.

22. The method of claim 20, wherein said range of electrical potential is applied for about 10 to 200 seconds.

23. The method of claim 20, wherein said electrical potential comprises about 0.4 V versus an on-board reference electrode and is applied for about 50 seconds.
