Abstract

Mobile device tracker and method for tracking movement of mobile devices within a mobile communications environment. The mobile device tracker includes an acquisition device to periodically acquire location data for the mobile device within the mobile communications environment, and a plotter to identify on a map of a geographical region within which the mobile communications environment is located the location data for the mobile device.

Claims

1. A mobile device tracker for tracking movement of mobile devices within a mobile communications environment, the mobile device tracker comprising:

an acquisition device to periodically acquire location data for the mobile device within the mobile communications environment; and

a plotter to identify on a map of a geographical region within which the mobile communications environment is located the location data for the mobile device.

The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 1, wherein the acquisition device further acquires with the location data a time at which the location data was generated, and the plotter is structured to additionally plot on the map indicia to connect the location data in chronological order.

3. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 2, wherein the indicia comprises arrows.

4. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 1, wherein the location data relates to a location of an attachment point for the mobile user in the mobile communications network.

5. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 1, wherein the mobile communications environment comprises at least one of a public and a private mobile network.

6. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 5, wherein, regardless of the network to which the mobile user is connected, the acquisition device receives the location data for the attachment point to which the mobile user is connected.

7. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 1, wherein the acquisition device acquires the location data from the mobile user.

8. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 7, wherein the acquisition device automatically receives the location data from the mobile user.

9. A method for tracking movement of mobile devices within a mobile communications environment, the method comprising:

periodically acquiring location data for the mobile device within the mobile communications environment; and

plotting on a map of a geographical region within which the mobile communications environment the location data for the mobile device.

10. The method in accordance with claim 9, further comprising:

acquiring with the location data a time at which the location data was generated; and

plotting on the map indicia to connect the location data in chronological order.

11. The method in accordance with claim 10, wherein the indicia comprises arrows.

12. The method in accordance with claim 9, wherein the location data identifies an attachment point for the mobile user in the mobile communications network.

13. The method in accordance with claim 9, wherein the mobile communications environment comprises at least one of a public and a private mobile network.

14. The method in accordance with claim 13, further comprising receiving, regardless of the network to which the mobile user is connected, the location data for the attachment point to which the mobile user is connected.

15. The method in accordance with claim 9, further comprising acquiring the location data from the mobile user.

16. The method in accordance with claim 15, further comprising automatically receiving the location data from the mobile user.

17. A mobile device tracker for tracking movement of mobile devices within a mobile communications environment comprising at least one available network, the mobile device tracker comprising:

an acquisition device to periodically acquire location data from mobile devices over time;

a storage device for storing the location data for each mobile device and a time at which the location data was generated; and

a mapping device that populates, for a specified mobile device, maps of a geographical region within which the mobile communications environment is located with the location data and the generation time.

18. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 17, further comprising a plotter that provides indicia on the map indicative of a chronological order of the received location data.

19. The mobile device tracker in accordance with claim 18, wherein the indicia comprises arrows.
