- a memory;
a data processing section operatively coupled to the memory, wherein the data processing section is configured to;
establish a communication range with a remote device when the remote device is positioned within a predetermined distance from the data processing section; and
determine when a glucose sensor is transcutaneously positioned and initialized, and based on the determination, transition a status identifier stored in the memory from a first state to a second state; and
a communication module operatively coupled to the data processing section and configured to communicate the status identifier to the remote device when the remote device is placed within the established communication range.

establishing a communication range between a remote device and a glucose monitoring device when the remote device is positioned within a predetermined distance from the glucose monitoring device; determining, using a data processing section of the glucose monitoring device, when a glucose sensor is transcutaneously positioned or initialized, and based on the determination, transitioning a status identifier stored in a memory of the glucose monitoring device from a first state to a second state; and communicating the status identifier to the remote device when the remote device is positioned within the communication range using a communication module of the glucose monitoring device. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
